Erik Jones to Hendrick Motorsports?

Wow, what a wacky week we have had so far. While we all try to get through what is 2020, Erik Jones may be eyeing a fresh start in 2021. This is after Joe Gibbs Racing and Jones announced jointly that Jones would not be back in the #20 car for the 2021 season. One would imagine that this announcement is likely due to the fact that Christopher Bell will move over to the official Joe Gibbs Racing team after Leavine Family Racing was sold. Remember, Leavine Family Racing had a deal in place allowing Bell to essentially remain with JGR while being promoted to the Nascar Cup Series, thus allowing JGR to keep their solid team in place while allowing Bell to gain experience.

So, while the future of Joe Gibbs Racing looks well in tact for the future, what is next for Erik Jones? Personally, I believe that Jones will find a nice landing spot in Hendrick Motorsports. We already know that Jimmy Johnson will be retiring from full time competition when the 2020 season comes to an end. If you look around at the other drivers currently at Hendrick, Jones would fit in perfectly. The addition of Jones would allow for Hendrick Motorsports to feature a bright young lineup consisting of (88) Alex Bowman, (9) Chase Elliott, and then… (48) William Byron, and (24) Erik Jones. That’s right, The way we see it here is Byron will move over to the 48 and be the new face of the Ally car. This then allows for Jones to be slotted into the 24. On paper this appears to be a team that could lead Hendrick Motorsports back to their glory days.

So, what do you think? Could Erik Jones be on his way to the #24 car? Personally, it makes too much sense to me. However, I would still love to read your opinions.
